Things to Do in Malé
Since it is a small city, people will need only a day to travel the capital city.
This is a good first stop for the city tour. The place was built in 1656. The mosque was constructed during the reign of Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar I. It is not only a heritage place in Malé. The mosque has Arabic writings and Islamic ornamental patterns. It is forbidden for non-Moslems to enter the place without a prior permission. There is no entrance ticket for this stop.
It is the centerpoint of Male. This Republic Square is only a little park on the north coast. Because of the important meaning of the square, this place is a focal point of many political demonstration in Male. The place is marked by a flagpole and a giant Maldivian flag. Travelers can just walk and take some photos in this location.
This area has the largest mosque in Maldives. The place is an architectural landmark that welcome travelers to come and take photographs. The mosque is topped with a golden dome. The place is large enough to accommodate 5,000 people.
Maldives National Defense Force HQ
It is an unmissable sight in the central Male. Though it is hard to say that this site is a tourist spot, the place holds the charm of Male as a capital city of an iron fist government. This national security service area is a windowless white bulk towers with guards. Travelers are not allowed to take photos around the area.
